Botox works by temporarily blocking nerve signals in the muscles where it is injected. This reduces muscle movement, which in turn softens the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. The effect is temporary as the nerve endings gradually recover, which is why repeat treatments are needed to maintain the results.

Botox is considered safe when administered by a trained medical professional. Common side effects may include minor bruising, redness, or swelling at the injection site. In some cases, patients might experience headaches, mild flu-like symptoms, or temporary drooping of the brow/eyelid. During your consultation, we’ll review your medical history and discuss any potential risks to ensure that Botox is the right treatment for you.

Botox may not be suitable for everyone. For example, individuals who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have certain neuromuscular disorders might be advised against Botox treatments. We’ll review your full medical history during the consultation to ensure you’re a good candidate for the treatment.

During your consultation, we’ll discuss your concerns and assess your facial anatomy to determine which areas will benefit most from treatment. The number of ‘areas’ treated (for example, frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet in the upper face) directly affects the cost of your treatment. Each area is priced individually, so if all three areas are treated, you would be charged for three treatment areas.

The procedure itself is very quick, often taking only 10–15 minutes. This makes it easy to fit into your busy schedule with minimal disruption to your day.

Injections are performed using very fine needles, so most patients only feel a quick, light pinch at the time of injection. The injections themselves are very superficial in most areas, which helps to keep the experience as comfortable as possible. After treatment, you might notice small lumps of fluid at the injection sites, which typically settle within about 15 minutes.

Many patients begin to notice subtle changes within a few days after treatment, with the full effects typically becoming apparent within 1–2 weeks.

Botulinum toxin is used to reduce muscular movement, which helps to smooth lines and wrinkles caused primarily by facial expressions. It’s licensed for cosmetic use in the upper face (including frown lines, the forehead, and crow’s feet). Additionally, it is often used off-license to address concerns in other areas such as teeth grinding, gummy smile, lip flip, and smoker’s lines. During your consultation, we’ll discuss the best areas for treatment based on your specific concerns.

After your treatment, you’ll be given specific aftercare instructions. Generally, it’s advisable to avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas for at least 24 hours and to refrain from strenuous exercise immediately following the procedure. This helps ensure the toxin remains in the targeted muscles and achieves the best possible result. You shouldn't have any facial treatments for 2 weeks after botox.

You will be offered a review appointment approximately 2 weeks after your initial treatment. At this appointment, we’ll assess your results and determine if any additional units are needed. If a top-up is warranted, it will be administered at no extra cost. It’s important to avoid automatic top-ups if the results are satisfactory, as unnecessary additional doses can increase the risk of overtreatment and may contribute to the development of resistance to the toxin.

Once the toxin has blocked the nerve receptors, your muscles gradually regain movement as the body repairs the ‘damage.’ Typically, you may start to notice the return of movement around 5–6 weeks after treatment, and the effects usually wear off by around 12 weeks. For many patients, regular treatments can lead to longer-lasting results due to muscle atrophy. Keep in mind that individual factors like your metabolism, muscle strength, and lifestyle can also influence how long the effects last.
